Mike had indicated that he was interested in playing a little guess-the-grade and so below are front and back scans of all 12 checks, starting with the P-15s.

I'm in! Only thing I'm not sure of is how much the cancelation stamps and signatures detract from the note, guess it doesn't matter since they are all signed and stamped. Studying now.

Submitting multiples is a tough question, I do (modern NCLT coins) to one increase my odds of a 70 with little or no risk, two to sell off the other recouping my money if a 69 and/or making a little profit if 70. Something like this is a different animal with a seemingly small collector pool, but in this instance with so few graded you might be able to sell them off for a profit and/or break even. On the other hand if you do submit multiples, with the long lead times if you did want to send in a second submissions after this one you might miss the deadline. Agh! If it's me I submit one of each including the P15 just so I have a straight run of consecutive Cert #'s, I would like the orderliness of consecutive #'s in my set, then I would tack on as many other bills as possible to fill gaps or add the fuel coupons. If there was left over money after that (from the prize winnings) I would consider adding the additional Cheques.

  2. That's awesome, congratulations again on the award!

Pssst, you're gonna need a bigger shelf.

Glad Sam liked the plaque so much, that pic of him holding/staring at it cracked me up.  Reminds me of one of my nieces, she's in a similar situation/condition, biggest smile I've seen out of her was when I told her all my junk mail was for her and she opened a Luxury Accessories pamphlet I had gotten from HA. It had all kinds of purses and stuff in it, well, she had pretty much the same expression as Sam. Long story short she wouldn't put it down, took it home and her parents were pissed at me because that's all she would talk about/wanted (stuff in the pamphlet). Ooops.

So what are the inside dimension of those boxes, how tall of a graded note could I fit in one and how sturdy are they? I've been watching those a long time and they look good.

  3. You're a lucky guy my friend and that's a pretty great gift to boot! :golfclap:

I have looked at these before and I liked them a lot but I didn't think they would fit some of the older "blanket" type notes in my collection, the tallest note I have with holder measures 6.5". I didn't know they had a little pocket on the end/bottom, super cool and I hadn't thought about orienting them that way but I guess you would have to in order to open them without everything spilling out. You could still stand them up like a book for security/storage though.

Feeling jealous of those storage books and pretty inadequate due to my junk draw method of storage right now.

Well there's a neat cross over to the stamp collectors of the world!  I've got my perf. guage ready.  What should I be looking for?  Did you get AU 55s because of the centering?  :)

Definitely a centering issue, along with poor separation of the top and bottom perforations (not clean, crisp, clear tears/cuts like the sides) and a slight horizontal crease bottom center (more visible on the reverse). Not a stamp guy (yet) but that's what I'm seeing.

Oh yeah! It's a less desirable, less valuable note that earns about 5% of the points of the other if the label is correct but PMG made a mistake! Let's pile on and act like some data-entry person at PMG hitting a instead of b makes this very common note somehow more valuable. Never mind that the note is worth about $20-25 on a good day usually. I guess there's a chance that there are slab / holder collectors out there that would like it but I have no interest personally.

That note with the mechanical error just got reposted on ebay, I'd say they have it described fairly now. $30 it could be yours.

Interesting. So I guess the PMG holder doesn't block UV and you can still see the UV features in graded notes. I have a UV light I might actually use now...

It probably obstructs the UV features a little bit but they are still visible. In the last row of images you can see the security fibers through the holder. The images of the 10 Karbovantsiv are of an ungraded note in a regular holder.

The initial thing that didn't look right is with a UV feature that large you can typically see a faint outline of it or a shadow or shaded area under regular lighting. If you hold it just right.

Here's a pic of a 50 Karbovantsiv under standard lighting with some slight backlighting. The latent imprint is clearly visible.

  7. Yeah that's a little salty for the Cargill cheques. I like the fuel ration coupons, kinda takes the whole situation to a more personal level. For me.

I think there is a good chance PMG would grade the coupons issued by the RBZ, not so sure they would grade ones issued by CALTEX or others (if there are others).

What's the one that has AMBY on it, was that a RBZ issue as well? Looks like they cashed it.

Dang it, can't stop looking at fuel coupons now. :frustrated:

  8. Read a little blurb about Zim last week in Coin World, speaking to the state of things there.

Side note, I'm really loving that Coin World now has a Paper Money section. I think they added it at the start of 2020 and it seems to be expanding. ^^
