I'm guessing why 1 & 2 and not 5 $ 10 comes down to the cost - including the cost of the souvenirs/ Collector's items / sheets to the expected buyers and their expectations of what people would be willing to spend. I'm guessing they felt their wouldn't be enough demand for 5 and 10 products to make it worth it.

I agree, a definite factor or perhaps the main reason why 5 & 10's weren't printed. Honestly, at this point I have a feeling that the only ones that may have been in circulation were cut from uncut sheets. I've been comparing the 2018's to previous years and I haven't found definitive evidence that my 2018's were trimmed from an uncut sheet. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell regardless, if people took their time or cut them on a sheering machine similar to what printing works use. (shrug)

I posted in mid-June 2020 that we'd hit 1,000 ranked users on the PMG side of the registry. I checked today just for fun and it is at 1,192 - just shy of 1,200.

It would be cool if we could hit 1,200 by Wednesday, but I guess we'll see. 🤷‍♂️

    Still, that's a 20% increase in under 18 months.

That's sweet! Where do you see that number at?

It does seem to have picked up a little around here, but I guess it usually does around awards time.

Uh huh.... The artwork only got you into the new series a long time after the free shipping and my yapping got you into 2 other series / sub-sets. And in spite of your claims of loving the first dollars I notice those don't seem to be happening without free shipping as a booster to buy a note. hm

lol Busted. The first series is the most attractive, followed closely by the current series. My lack of first series notes is due to several factors, eventually I'll give them a go, but not for a few years at the earliest. Or at least that's my tentative timeline, who knows. (shrug)

The Zimbabwean notes have a big advantage over the old Hungarian and Weimar Germany notes because they are 1) Plentiful and cheap in high grades and 2) They're in English, which is just going to make them inherently more approachable than most other hyperinflation notes, like Yugoslavian notes or even Venezuelan notes.

Hey, I have Yugoslav notes, I guess I have Zim notes too but no Ven notes. lol

I suppose you're right on some level with the English text on the Zim notes but it never occurred to me until I read this that my Zim notes were in English and my Yugoslav notes were in... Serbo-Croatian.? I honestly don't know, now I'm going to have to research this. lol

Long story short, the artwork/design, history and/or story behind the notes was the reason I purchased these..... and free shipping. lol

I hope they know what they’re getting into, because especially after PCGS Goldshield cratered, there is 1 sheriff in this town, and that is PMG. PMG owns this space. And they would have almost no chance on a good day, but they are crippling themselves with these non-grade, wishy-washy grade ranges.

    :golfclap:

I wouldn't think twice about buying a PCGS graded note though or any note in general, no matter the holder or raw, as long as I thought it worthwhile. But yes PMG is king of the hill when it comes to authenticating and grading banknotes, :sumo: and nobody should be wasting their time with a TAP note unless they are really, really, really, good at grading banknotes and can cherry pick.

TAP (Total Authentication Promise or something like that)

    "Trust, Authenticate, Protect"

It's been awhile snice I've bought anything from BNW, or have even visited their site, and WOW! I took a quick look this morning and FYI, the minimum order is now $150!?! I also noticed that they don't put a grade range on the label anymore, just calling it authentic and putting a bunch of nice information on the label. The whole TAP thing just smacks of bilking people of their money, I'd rather they offered a nice folder with a note in it and have a nice little write up about the country and the details of the note. I might actually think about buying something like that, that is if I didn't have to spend $150. :o

 For those interested I will soon have MIKE notes available. Money Integrity Knowledge Encapsulation. (thumbsu

I did some digging and, while NGC can't tell me exactly dates, most of my 10G collection was graded in or around 1993, when NGC was only like 6 years old. Those coins were graded nearly 30 years ago.

I don't remember but did you consider having them regraded while getting them reholdered? If gradeflation is an actual thing with the 10G's do you think some would have received a bump? :bump:

The other thing I think I'd have to grapple with that could be hard to account for is the ever present claims of graded inflation. While I reholdered them this year to make them all match, many of my 10Gs used to be in old Fatty holders. I did some digging and, while NGC can't tell me exactly dates, most of my 10G collection was graded in or around 1993, when NGC was only like 6 years old. Those coins were graded nearly 30 years ago.

The PCGS 67 dropped a grade when crossed, if I remember correctly, and that was in an older holder, so probably graded 10+ years prior to crossing? I think gradeflation is more of a thing for U.S. coins and some of the more popular world collecting areas, I know I don't have to worry about it because there are very few collectors of graded material, or even raw, in my areas. lol

Yeesh, I didn't realize there were so many 10G's graded. I guess I could see some gradeflation going on there.

Okay, so I'm probably not being fair to PCGS in saying this as I've never seen a PCGS 68 10G in hand, however 1) my 1 MS67 looks no nicer than my NGC 66s, and I sometimes think it might be a hair worse, more like the 65s, and 2) you almost NEVER seen NGC MS67 coins up for sale it feels like but you see PCGS MS68s on a pretty regular basis - purely subjective and not rigorous in my analysis but I've been shopping the dang things off and on for 12 years.

Yeah, it's tough to get universal grading standards for world coins. I'm sure there are standards which were published somewhere, probably in the countries or region they were produced, but to try and get two different TPG's thousands of miles away in a different country to agree is probably not going to happen. Each set it's own standards, most likely, which is a good reason to keep the TPG's separate.

I was more thinking of what your opinion was based off of pics, it's not the same as in hand but there is probably almost nobody out there who has seen enough of these in hand to give an evaluation between the two TPG's. The 67 is a good comparison. (thumbsu

Makes me think of a lot I saw recently with a bunch of Zim notes including a ZIM91. Everything was in a PMG holder except the ZIM91, which was PCGS. "Ick. The most important note in the group is in the worst holder."

I agree "Ick", but probably the worst looking holder is the Banknote Certification Services one, Legacy isn't great looking either. PMG China has a bunch of crazy stuff going on if you ever get a chance to look around. Regardless if the right note came along I'd buy it independent of what it was holdered in, or not.

It is a little hard for me to take 10G coins in PCGS slabs seriously. With NGC a 67 on a 10G is hard to get. With PCGS, 68s seem far more common. So I'm quite convinced that PCGS is using different standards that are just allowing higher grades.

It makes me glad that PCGS world coins aren't allowed in the registry. I think if they were my currently top ranked set would get curbstomped by those inflated grades.

That's interesting, I've only crossed a few PCGS coins to NGC and they all crossed at the same grade so far. A lot of the stuff I see is NCLT and usually that stuff will cross either way or be with in a point so it's hard for me to say if the grading is on par, so far it has been. I'm assuming you disagreed with the PCGS 68's, so did they look more like a NGC 67 or something else.

It's hard to say how one TPG grades a certain coin compared to another, but I agree, I'm glad PCGS world coins are not allowed in the NGC registry but I would probably be ok if they let modern NCLT into the Registry.

I think I'm happy enough just digging through my lots of raw z coins and staying out of it. There's been some stuff popping up for Zimbabwean notes and I'm just like, "that's nice, but I think I'm good focusing my budget on my coins."

I'm honestly starting to think I'm done on the notes end for a bit unless I catch a favorable deal on a VEN104 or VEN114.

I'll be busy with notes for another year, but the volume will be much less compared to years past. I'm getting close to the end with my Ukrainian banknote collection and have been gradually shifting my attention more and more to my coin collections. I kind of like to shift focus every year or two to keep things interesting, sometimes you just need to take a step back for a little while. I'll still be looking to enhance my Ukrainian note collection with some sweet errors and I'll stay up to date with it as I move to coins for awhile. I tell yah, finishing those Zim sets really took it out of me as well. :baiting:

It's feeling like a long wait for Monday to get some final resolution on that order we've been discussing.

    Anything word?

  12. -10 = 2,461 WTF! :whatthe:

    2 Hryven +1

    10 Hryven +2

    20 Hryven +1

    100 Hryven -28

    200 Hryven +1

    500 Hryven +2

    1000 Hryven +2

    2000 Hryven +2

    50 Karbovantsiv -1

    100 Karbovantsiv +3

    1000 Karbovantsiv +2

    5000 Karbovantsiv +1

    20000 Karbovantsiv +2

Major correction today in the Pop Report, with 100 Hryven loosing 28 notes and 50 Karbovantsiv dropping 1 note. Corrections happen to the pop reports, with the last being on 6/22/2021 for Ukrainian notes, but this is the largest I've seen since tracking. I've been tracking the Ukrainian Pop Report since May 11, 2021 and the 28 notes removed from the 100 Hryven is more than the additions since May (23). The 100 Hryven Pop in May 130, today 128. Could just be a key stroke error and the numbers could flip next week, we'll see.

Yeah, I didn't want to publish any of them until the "saga" was done, and when it was I didn't want to wait and publish them one at a time over a week or two. I wanted to be done with it too. lol

At the end of the day, I think it's hard to build most truly great and unique registry sets without doing some of the grading yourself. At some point you're gonna hit some rare or rarely collected or rarely graded thing that you just won't get to buy off inventory for a reasonable price.

100% agree! I've already picked up several notes not in Pick and a few "yet to be graded" known notes. I'm working on acquiring a couple really interesting notes right now including a contemporary counterfeit from 1918 that has been sitting out there unnoticed. :wishluck:

That seller is up to 9 sold... Sit on the fence long enough and you might end up getting stuck with that Canadian seller wanting $500 for one.

HA! The PMG Pop Rep has 32 at 66, so how many are there? I think you're right I better act sooner than later, could be years before they pop up again at that price.

And that's where I'm basically shrugging with the P-13, the P-14 and the P-24 through P-27. When those come up at all people want $300-500 for them raw and in very circulated states.

:whatthe: Yeah, that's a LOT saltier than I thought for those. It's a tough one, maybe it's a one note a year type of thing, still it's tough to relinquish a good chunk of the budget to a single, circulated, raw note, and potentially investing another $40ish for grading.... hm I guess I'd try to chip away at them, assuming that they are available in the years to come.

I feel a temptation to nuke my set for spare 3rd dollars for the crime of breaking up my 100% completes. :Dlol

HA! Yeah, I never understood the reasoning of listing a second or third set of duplicate notes, unless an individual was actively peddling them. I guess there is the registry point aspect of this or maybe it's easier to keep track of them, but still, I'd nuke the set!

  17. I've already said it but I'll say it again, that is one hell of a gift! :golfclap:

At a whopping $265 – a very high price tag for this set, making it cost about 1/10th as much as the rest of the 100-note set combined and beating the next most expensive note by a factor of ~2.5 – this was a bit of a painful one to pull the trigger on but I just had to have this or I don’t think I’d ever be able to feel fully satisfied with the set.

I wouldn't think it would have been painful at all,  I'm thinking it was necessary.  Seriously, the set wouldn't be the same without it and while it would have been nice to wait and maybe save a few bucks (or self-submit a raw note) sometimes you just have to go for it. (thumbsu I'd be super happy with the state of the set, with a sense of accomplishment, but an empty slot would bug me unless it's just not a realistic note to acquire. Those you just have to come to terms with and/or wait it out.

Yeah, NH needs to start embracing their website more and give up on ebay. Pick a price and list it on your site, stop holding out on the good notes and then listing them on ebay. Maybe if I stopped running up bids on auctions they would.  :slapfight:
