  1. Beautiful note! I particularly like the front vignette, and specimens, well I have a soft spot for specimens. :golfclap:

It's always nice when there is a lot of information out there for a note or series of notes. It makes it so much easier and enjoyable on some levels, although it is always nice to dig around for info but that can still be done, you just have a better starting point to find additional info.

  2. Ahh, the rare Thursday evening/Friday morning update.

One of the reasons I picked this note was that the signature was in red as the only info I have is that the signatures were stamped, and in black or blue. All the other examples I have seen match this so it may just be Series EE. It looks red to me but as you will appreciate this may be another case of it being the only colour available at the time or changes over the long-term? xD

That's interesting! It looks like it bleed through to the back of the note and that appears red as well. hm My opinion would be that red ink was used, especially if you can tie it to a series and number range. Good luck in researching this, hopefully there will be a definitive answer for you at the end of this crumb trail. (thumbsu

The second note is from the Bolivian Bank established by Francisco Argandano in 1892. Not knowing much about this from the banknote references, an internet search found that Francisco had a really interesting life and was even made a Prince – the only one in Bolivia.

Is this one hand signed or stamped/printed, the sig in red? Looks stamped but it would be one heck of a sig if not. Was there a changing of the guard that required the additional signature or is it just graffiti? An original Banksy perhaps? xD

You just need to track down who the first 100 notes went to, and then persuade them to part with them

Oh that would be sweet if I could find one of those! I probably wouldn't turn down that autographed and dated full sheet if they offered it to me either. Just saying NBU.  I'd give it a good home.

All the notes that I saw in the images and video of the press conference were serialized as ЗС 0000000 and they were not marked as specimens.

  6. I can only think of one note that is square or not a rectangle in my collection.

It did not start out life this shape, as it would have had 8 coupons attached to it (4 per side) measuring roughly 150mm T x 295mm W, but as the coupons were removed it was reduced to a lowly square. Totally L7 man. xD

@Fenntucky Mike this is a fascinating study. My first thought was that the notes were just a uniface proof - or is that too simple?xD colour trial?

This may explain the slight differences in the fibres as slightly different paper was tested etc as the design/production process was finalised.

Anyone at the printers that could be contacted?

A uniface proof makes the most sense to me, that would explain the survivorship and typical condition that these seem to be found in. A color trial would also make sense. It's interesting to note that there are at least two different types of specimens for these notes, one with red overprint, one with perforation, and that the specimens have different color schemes. It is also interesting to note that these varying color schemes appear on the circulating currency, although the contrast between the two is not as obvious as the two notes below make it appear. It makes me wonder if there were not two separate printings for these instead of just one. Most references identify the perforated notes as proofs but not all.

I have around a dozen 5 Karbovantsiv notes from 1991, and the control note is the only one with the two different security fibers. I haven't studied the specimens under UV yet, maybe this weekend.

I haven't tried to reach out to I.S.B. yet but that is a good idea, hopefully their archivist isn't on permanent vacation like TDL's. lol

It is good to see that they are still issuing new notes.

I wouldn't be able to keep up with new issues which is probably why most of my coin and note sets deal with periods from long ago. An exception is probably El Salvador but there is still an end point as they now use the US dollar!xD

Everytime I see the 100 Hryven note I wonder why they put Ronnie O'Sullivan on it? :roflmao:

There is something to be said about collecting a series that is finite. Modern banknotes are bad enough but trying to collect modern bullion series is way worse. That is nuts, I dipped my toe in and got the hell out. Well, not completely but 99%.

I looked up ol' Ronnie and yes how'd he get on there. 😆

  9. I've missed the last few weeks with issues being able to connect to the Forum, the webpage keeps loading all jumbled when I try to connect on my laptop. Anyway since I'm working off of my phone for the moment I'm just going to update the total and not individual denominations.

    For the week of 1/3 - 1/9.

+96=4,003 across 32 denominations, Bam! Big jump this week after smaller incremental increases the weeks prior. The total note population has almost doubled now since I first started tracking the PMG population numbers on 5/11/2021.

Wow that's crazy, I know notes have been going for more money but did this go for more than you thought it would or more than it should have?

I'll be honest and say that I put down a bid of $350 which I thought was stupid money, so this note went for a few hundred dollars above what I thought the top market price would be. WRONG! doh!

There are three 66 EPQ notes graded by PMG and one 67! I'd hate to see what that note would go for! :tonofbricks:

Yeah I'll agree with you, it seems like there has been less available. Recently this note popped up, and while I'm not trying to get it I think it is a really nice note. Some of the notes from around that time period are so colorful and detailed.

I am actually having the opposite problem, the chat boards work just fin for me at my desktop computer but if I try and access them on my phone it loads wrong and is all jumbled. NGC works just fine on both for me as well.

One of my favorite notes, and it's friggin huge! You can usually find those raw, in really good condition, even UNC, for under $50, plenty of survivors.
