Never felt so happy to get a 15
Happily Surprised
Sending notes in to be graded can be a real shoot.
Sometimes lucky 7 comes up and sometimes you out.
This time I was Happily Surprised, I was expecting this rare
mule to come back a 10 or 12 net. It was like Christmas when
I saw the 15 and no ugly comments. PMG has graded
over 1 Million notes now, with a total of (2) 1935 Mules from the M-A block.
My 1935 set is now 100% complete.

Still a rookie...
Its only paper, but...
Greetings to All,
WOW! 2015 all ready. I slowly switched gears (my walk) to paper money (aka currency) in 2011. Mortgaged the property for a five figure note. I just mortgaged again for another five figure note.
As my collector/buddy (in the hobby for over 40 years), said "Now you know where to put your money". Items (coins or notes) that you don't see, but every three to five years. I believe you all in the hobby called it "KEY DATE or RARE ITEM". Have fun in the hobby. Enjoy!

silver certs.
im a early teenage collector that has a great interest in silver certificates and old us notes and a lot of coinage. i have always enjoyed collecting and have a lot of knowledge on the subject.
i have recently added a 1928 B one dollar silver cert to my collection of 15 regular funny backs and know poses 123 notes total i have 30 1935 one dollar silver certs and around 20 1957 silver certs a few blue seal fives and a couple blue seal 10s one blue seal 20 and an older 100. i have 4 one dollar huwaii notes and one africa emergency note. I've got 5 red seal 2s and i have acquired around 30 morgan silvers and a one centavo phillapino edition small s us coin booked for 150 i picked up for 2 bucks at my local flea market

Compounded Fun
Almost impossible to find, this Compound Interest Treasury Note was a recent addition to my $10 large size type note collection.
81% complete after this addition, acquiring the remaining notes is a difficult and expensive task. Low grade net notes are my best hope, and I recently acquired this note on eBay. For the grade, it looks really nice. What say you?

National Banknotes
Illinois National Banknotes
I am currently assembling a collection of national banknotes from Illinois - Both large and small size. Collecting nationals is different than other note types because of the vast variety of issues, banks, and the sometimes uncertainty in determining the quantity of surviving notes. An excellent source is the book entitled National Banknotes,6th Edition, by Don C. Kelly. (A must-have for national banknote collectors/dealers, in my view). A weath of information is contained in this book including a list of national banks, by state, county, city and town, plus a population report on surviving notes, as well as other valuable information. This book is very helpful in determining the rarity of notes, especially if collected by state, region or a particular town bank. I will be adding new information on my collection and any new findings regarding nationals in the near future. Thanks for reading.

One of the toughest complete collections is the Large size Block collection set.
It took over two years, but all blocks in the highest PMG grade are now completed. This is a rarity for any collection. This collection contains 14 notes but there are only 10 FR numbers within the 1899 $2's. There are 4 FR numbers that have two blocks.
What is great about this collection is each and every note is the top of the population numbers. Several are POP 1.
Also, the 257 only being a GEM 66 is pop1 and none finer.
The FR 238 "R" block is a GEM 65 and this is also a pop 1 none finer.
The 257 and 258 "R" block are extremely rare in high grade.
You can view only 10 of these notes on the PMG website because the system will not accept the additional block notes that are in the collection.

The Quest has been Completed
1929 $5 FRBN NY star note has been found.
The first journal entry I wrote on this topic was in November of 2011, promising that I would follow up once I found the last missing piece for my 1929 FRBN NY complete district set. It was in early December 2013 while browsing the 2014 FUN auction catalog, when I knew I had to have this note. Heritage Auctions had the following description, "A very scarce star with a print run of just 24,000 pieces. Track & Price reports only a literal handful of offerings during the past ten years..." With a description like that, I was not sure the next time I would be able to find this elusive star note, so I seized the moment. In addition, presently there are only two pieces in the PMG registry, this note is one and the other being 65 EPQ. Even if the gem example came to auction, it would be out of my budget.
The note has been accurately graded by PMG, VF 20, with no net grade. Even circulation and broad margins on the reverse, the note maintains much of its originality.
Please see my registry set. All of the regular issue notes are graded from CU 64 EPQ to Superb Gem 67 EPQ. The only improvement I could see being made is to upgrade the $100 denomination to a full gem example, making every regular issue note either a 66 or 67 EPQ. I have seen NY stars of the 10, 20 and 50 denomination in better grades than what I currently have. Most recently a $50 New York star graded 64 EPQ, which had a realization of over $11,000.
However, I am now turning my focus to collecting single digit serial numbers for the 1929 FRBNs of New York. Presently I have serial number 4, for the $5 denomination, graded PMG 58 EPQ.

Still finding Buffalo Nickels.
My budget for my collection consists of buying $10 of rolled coins each week. This week I bought 5 rolls of nickels. In the third roll I found a 1927. Very clear date. Possibly a VG-8.

Nicaragua Polymer note discovery
This is what was found in bulk waste paper in Java, Indonesia.
Nicaragua 200 Cordoba polymer note discovery
At the local flea/collector's market last Friday, I was offered the following nine polymer partly printed Nicaragua 200 Polymer notes. It is impossible to tell whether they are the 2009 original issues or the 2012 reprints. I have to add that this market is located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and the vendor was not a local. I was told that these notes were salvaged from a waste paper treating facility. I know that in the past, quite a large number of currency notes including high denominations were found in these places -- there are several in Indonesia. Due to generally very low unskilled wages, many people here are drawn to sift through paper and other waste in order to source items of value.
It seems that, at first glance, the notes look similar; there are differences in the amount of times these items have been through the printing procedure. These are made using the Guardian method as mentioned on the Innovia Security website. Most of the security features appear to be absent except that some but not all notes possess "shadow images" or "iridescent features"(I don't know how to tell them apart).

Collecting coins vs notes
Can't collect coins without eventually collecting notes.
Well I've collected coins since elementary school as did most of us; yes with the blue Whitman folders. I stopped collecting in high school when I discovered girls and muscle cars. I married my first girlfriend and still own my first muscle car, oh and still married to my first wife. I had to include muscle because my actual first car was a Toyota corolla.
I started collecting currency in 2012 at the other TPG just to see the difference. And WOW what a difference. I begged and bribed PMG to cross over my notes but that's not available. Since I have mostly top pops with 16 being single finest I can't really send them in on a chance that they'll make the grade. Just this year I started a signature set and a few competative sets here at PMG though they'll never be award winners I've found it very interesting. I'm starting with just sheets of 4 and 8, the largest PMG currently encases though I've seen older sheets of 12 certified by PMG. The chat boards on the PMG side may not be as active as on the coin side but the helpfulness, kindness and respectful answers and willingness is strong. In 2012 there just didn't seem to be many PMG notes available but now when looking at the auction catalogs it's about 50 - 50. I also like the fact that NGC & PMG are the same company. That's not the case with PCGS and PCGScurrency; the currency division was sold off a few years ago as it wasn't making the money that parent company had hoped. Collectors universe is a publicly traded under the symbol CLCT on the NASDAQ. One would think with share holders PCGS would try harder but that's not the case. After submitting coins and currency to both places I can say NGC is clearly superior in every aspect and they don't even pay dividends to anyone. So my point is when you start your currency set don't make the same mistake I made; use PMG. Lastly, the auction prices are the same for either grader in currency unlike with coins. Yes, I've read and been told by several people why the price differences in coins and I can't explain it, understand it or care.

What Collecting really means?
It is not just a hobby to spend ones free time on. Now coin, currency and comic collecting has become quite a profitable way of life for many professional collectors. It doesn't matter what you like to collect it can be any of the three listed above. If one knows what he or she is doing it is not only hobby, it could actually turn into a very profitable home business.
I started collecting things when I was only eight years old. I remember it started ever since my father gave me a bright shinny Morgan Silver Dollar. I have never seen one before that so I was completely dazzled by the luster that the spinning coin projected as the sun light hit coin while I was moving it up and down to observe the different effect that I could come up with the shiny Morgan Silver Dollar.This was the begging of my Collecting hobby. I practically collected everything that I thought was beautiful. And I saw beauty in almost everything that I can see. Then as my collection grew because I was simply enjoying everything that I have collected from coins to currencies, from marbles to rubber bands and of course trading cards. To me they all have theirs own distinct personalities. But why do we collect things is it because we are afraid that they would run out if we didn't have enough of them? If one is good then maybe have ten or twenty of them is even better. So when does it end? When do we say we say to ourselves there I have collected my very last piece of coin. I am done with coin collecting, but we know that it couldn't be that easy. We know that sooner of latter we won't be able to stop collecting things, simply because deep down inside us we really know why or who we are collecting for. You see it's like whenever a child get to see some of my coins, currency and specially my comic books collection, I see it in their eyes that they were thanking me for collecting these wonderful things that the child was feasting their eyes on. That's when I totally realize that I wasn't really collecting for myself or for my home business. That is when it finally hit me, that I was actually collecting for the children of the future. So that they too would someday be able to gaze their eyes on that same beautiful coin luster of that very first Morgan Dollar that was given to me when I was also just a child.

Wow over 100 for a complete set
I added this one cause my fractional notes are getting harder to find in the grade and price I'm. Looking for so I figured I get the easy ones of another set
So I picked this set cause its older and I think has a higher neat factor for my kids. Why I collect in the first place
I know nothing about these I know pmg epq is more than likely the way I am going but grade level not sure.
I'm just real excited to learn about these and having fun doing it. But over 100 bills to complete the set I'm sure it will take a lot of time and effort to complete this set
So any insight to start me off please lmk the do and don't do's and especially the best way to complete this set

Score changes
Do the administrators ever look at the many sets of notes and adjust the scores accordingly?
???I was just wondering why I never see a score adjustment in the note sets like they do with the coin sets. I know that since I started assembling the few sets I have nothing has ever changed except the price to obtain quality notes. SSSSSSo whats up???
