Where has all the action gone, gone to flowers everyone.

It's now the end of March, one of the wackiest months in my life and probably yours and perhaps in history of the modern world.  Plagues have been with us since the beginning and I suppose this isn't gonna be the last one unless we all go down with it.  But, not here to discuss our future, but the present.  Seems as though everything except the graders have gone home, and I bet their number of coins and paper money has dropped quite a bit as only electronic trading is happening. All the venues I go to are shut down for the foreseeable future, and my website hasn't had a hit in 2 weeks.  I thought maybe with folks stuck inside, perhaps more would be looking at the site, www.exonumiaandmore.com but no such luck.

I'm working with a company who puts up sites, so I cannot edit it until they finish with their legal beagles and so on and so forth.  So,I thought I'd talk about what I am doing to keep me off the streets looking for paper money blowing in the wind.

A while back, I bought a stash of uncertified notes, mostly $2 modern FRN's  If you care to go to my site, you can see a few, and also I put a few on eBay and will add more when Tomorrow comes.  I put so many up, I ran out of free postings, so I have to wait til tomorrow. See captbrian2.  Is it illegal here to putup my locations of info. Hope not.

Anyway, these $2's are of many sorts.  Fancy serial #'s, error notes, and so on. One of them, I especially like (the blue book shows it at $700+-, and it is with 3 other notes.  What happens is, the third printing, (the serial # & seal) are submitting to gravity, then fighting it.  The 1st note is where it should be (the serial #) then the 2nd note has it dropping down a bit. and the 4th, it begins to defy gravity and starts self correcting back up to where it belongs.  I have never seen a set like this, and I have talked with others who have seen similar, but it is quite rare from what I can get from the paper money community.  Anyway, I will try to post the pictures.

I always have incredible trouble posting pictures on these journals, but I'll give 'er a spin.

No luck with picture. I'm gonna publish this then try to add in pictures.

Hope you get pictures working.  I've noticed a bunch of listings from sellers normally not very present on eBay.  I will look for captbrian2 on eBay, but Nationals are my thing. I did post my one deuce in a PMG holder--it's a radar, and a bicentennial, but in PMG 35 garnering 3 points, I'm last place :|.  But if we only had poor man's sets I'd be #1!!!  You can check it out here.  sig.jpg

That's a great note.  Hard to find.  I have a few I need to post, but just now getting to it. I dunno why I have so much trouble finding pictures, so I will take them again, rename the file and hope for better days.  Brian  PS I wonder if PMG would holder one of these.

PMG holdered a Technicolor note.  They occasionally come up on Heritage.  I don't see why they wouldn't holder the entire card.  I like the bicentennial card!

This souvenir card was issued at the 1981 International Paper Money Show in Memphis.  It has been cut down to the size of the note as originally issued and was encapsulated by PMG, but not graded.  It was printed from an original face plate (catalog # Fr. 1179).  Gold certificates are the only US currency ever to be recalled and were illegal to hold until April 24, 1964.

At some point I would like to get a submission in to NGC, but I don't have any mylar flips - just the cardboard ones - and that's not how NGC wants them sent in. Even if I could get those flips, I'm not sure I could get a box / packing material together.

Well, CaptBrian did mention flowers and plagues, so back on topic would be a note with flowers (there must be some world notes that would fit in here) or an appropriately titled national bank note of course.  While I don't have a Roseville, CA note I do have an Orange, CA note and a Floridian would appreciate orange blossoms as a flower I'm sure.  So, here's my contribution to thinking about flowers (and not plagues) for now.  Perhaps a field of blooms would be appropriate.  The second note is from New Bloomfield, PA (named for the location's fields that were in bloom when Perry County needed a County Seat in 1820) and is one you can find in my Small Size Nationals of Perry County, PA Signature set.. sig.jpg Cheers All!

Great bank name especially with the British spelling of sulfur.  Kelly only shows this note for SN 1 from Sulphur Springs; T&P know of any others?  I found a Sulphur, OK that had a national bank.   I would guess the opposite of Sulphur Springs might be shown below.  xD

There are 5 large and 15 smalls reported from Sulphur Springs (Bad Air), this is the only SN Uno.

There are 21 large and 20 small reported from your Beautiful Air bank. I tried to find out why the town was named Sulphur Springs but nothing much, less why it's not spelled the American way. The town was named Bright Star when it was along the Pony Express. Why they changed it is not clear from Wikipedia. It's not near the oil cities of east Texas where one would expect the pungent smell of sulfur and the biggest employers are the ISD and Walmart (no surprise). Just the type of note I love. Thanks for posting your floral slant on the world. PS I love those BEP issued souvenir cards of the Fr-1179. I wonder how many were printed?

There's a question about those because people kept going back to wanting the original plates which are, to this day, illegal to own.  This did something to the psysche of investors.  When you covet something you can't have, the focus is sharper and the brain goes into hyper-drive trying to figure out how to get one.  I guess it's like being brainwashed, you just cannot change your thinking unless you undergo a 'reverse brainwash'.

I have had these for a long time and are quite hard to find.  I have never seen them offered on ebay or HA or S&B.  I have several, and I'm told by dealers, they are way underpriced.   Let's see what happens, and I'll rethink my offer of $25 each on EBay.

As to numbers printed, only a guess, but in normal times, they would print around 500 items if like these, as time goes by, they increased to 2000 items, and now with the market seething with buyers, possibly more but now with the illness which shall not be named, I bet it goes down.  These prints are where you find them.

Love your stuff

I'll buy one from you if you're in the market. I love the Technicolors, like the rest of the free world (and the enslaved world). I find it hard to believe the actual Fr-1179 plates were used but if BEP says so then I guess I believe so. I wouldn't think they are going to go for big dollars ever but to have a version that actually looks like the original print is cool to have. I don't think a finer note was ever printed. Thanks for posting!

Here's a good random occurrence for you.  Sulphur Springs, TX is the County Seat of Hopkins County.  Did you notice the Cashier's signature on the Bel Air, MD note I posted?  Bank officers for the Second NB of Bel Air were W. Wylie Hopkins, Cashier (by 1931, President on Small size notes) and Thos. H. Robinson, President.  Also a good name given Johns Hopkins Univ. is located  nearby in Baltimore.  I know I've driven I-30 East out of Dallas at least once, so I've passed by Sulphur Springs.  I guess you saw this in wikipedia:  "The First National Bank of Sulphur Springs received its national charter in 1855. It is now known as City National Bank."  Of course 1855 is wrong.  The FNB received its NB charter (ch. # 3466) in 1886.  Ch. 12845, FNB in Sulphur Springs I would think was a reorganization of Ch. 3466, although it liquidated in 1933.  The City NB of Sulphur Spings (ch. # 3989) appears to have survived.

The 2nd series of designs for the Zimbabwe 1st dollar, issued in the mid-1990s, used an image of some flowers that I think are supposed to be Flame Lilies - the national flower of the country.

Beautiful currency.  I'd like to see our currency prettier, but I suppose tradition of the "greenback" and anti-counterfeit measures slows that idea.  Bahamas have beautiful coinage and paper money.

I've seen a lot of pretty world currency lately, a lot of which makes our current designs look so ho-hum by comparison.

Well, as I said, The tradition of the 'greenback' and anti-counterfeiting may be why we stick to the old way. I dunno.  Maybe a letter to one of the mints or mint director.  Or even the Treasury department.

Nice!  I like the flowers and the animals.  I had to look up Harare--I didn't know it was the capital.  The symbols in the lower right look like a counting system.  They remind me of Mayan base 20 number system, but I haven't figured it out for Zimbabwe.
