Hello, thanks for your message.  They are two different varieties in the Pick book, which is the main resource book we use for World notes.  You can check that resource for any other differences but yes, in this case, the main difference would be darkness of the ink on the note.

Thanks!

thanks for your kind answer, but to me, the darkness of a note can be too subjective, some Light Black to one grader can be Dark Black to another grader....right?

I have noticed The Light Black population is so muck less than Dark Black population of this Pick 876 in PMG's DATA.

Some people are confused with the two with just eyelooking.

and also why is the percentage of star★ given to Dark Black is so much higher than that of Light Black? what's the possible reason behind that?

thanks again.

Hello, the star designation is given to notes with exceptional eye appeal.  The particular variety of the note would not play into that determination.  You can find more information about the star designation here: https://www.pmgnotes.com/paper-money-grading/grading-scale/

If you feel that any note was mislabeled, you are welcome to send it back for a review but our graders are very familiar with these notes and what to look for in determining light and dark varieties.

Thank you!

Thank you!

in this attached case

you can see one labelled Dark Black, and another Light Black

the Serial number being 496-1629071(Dark) and 496-1639333(Light)

if purely judging by ink color by eyes, it's really easy making it wrong.

and as you can see, these 2 got close Serial Number, it's very likely they are printed in one day with one batch.

so frankly, is this kind of ink judgement really hold?

Hello, if you feel that any note has been mislabeled, you are welcome to send it back in for our graders to review and if there was an error, we would certainly correct that at no charge but we will have to review them before making any determination.

Thanks!
