  1. I'd say she has a good chance of them authenticating and grading it, since it is a serialized government issue. But if she can get the set in uncirc for $45 I think I'd send in a nicer one to grade.
  2. The OP - not you, which makes your post seem odd - explicitly asked about getting that note graded...
  3. So are you actually looking to sell it? If you want to sell it you might come out ahead as Mike says but you might not. A lot will depend on the grade. If you don't want to sell it, the question becomes, do you want it graded? To protect / preserve it or for any other reason. Bear in mind, just because it is uncirculated doesn't necessarily mean it's going to come back as a 70EPQ, or 68, or a 67.
  4. He'd have to pay $25 for the membership, $10 fee for each submission form, $20 to grade a modern note (maybe more for attribution of the fancy serial number), PMG is going to charge him a minimum of $23 to ship something back, he's going to have to pay something to ship it to them. So he'd have to be out at least $80 to get that graded. If he was grading some other things with it to spread out the costs of the shipping to and from and the cost of the membership it would be better, but I'd have a hard time justifying it for that alone. Shipping anything with a tracking number is probably going to cost you at least $4. Shipping all 15 of the notes I shipped to PMG recently cost me $11.40. Return shipping will run about $27. So that's about $2-3 in shipping there and back for 15 notes vs $27 to ship one thing there and back... the economics of this (shipping in particular) naturally favors submitting lots / as much as possible at a time. And that's before you even get into bulk grading discounts and elite tier memberships.
  5. Interesting that the $10 and $50 are getting priority even though I think the $20 is easily more heavily used in commerce.
  6. I suspect you'll live. You picked a fun theme. If I recall correctly, the hideous thing - for you - is the art on the P-72 isn't reused on any other 3rd dollar notes - it's very special in that way. So you can't switch to a different note like the 10 and the 5 Billion.
  7. We (people) like to assume that the future will be a logical continuation of the present and recent past. In some ways it often is. But I think the bit about "low grade and common notes" is important here, because the vast majority of the notes that most of us have are either low grade or common. Yeah. I think rare old Education series notes may go up in value over time - maybe even adjusted for inflation - but I still laugh at some of the marketing spin that some dealers still try to put on Zimbabwean Notes and other notes that have never and will never be rare. Except, of course, for the P-72!
  8. Many barely use cash now. I'm not sure new generations will continue to have interest in this as it all becomes historical novelties with no relevance to them.
  9. I don't know why everyone is losing their minds over the wait times. My biggest concern was mis-delivery by USPS and I felt they solved that by allowing you to put in your tracking number to confirm they had it. I swear, the more we bug them the slower things get done while they waste time keeping people happy.
  10. Or both... You could get both. I would get both.
  11. Yeah. I'm going to have to invest some time in researching those myself more, but I need to mostly settle Venezuela and Zimbabwe first. Honestly I don't know that I would have gotten that 69 back in the day except I bought it on a 60% off sale and got it for $24. At that price I had no regrets.
  12. The 2 six note ones were split because they're two groups of 6 (P-15 to P-20) that I wanted numbered -001 to -006. It might seem silly but it was worth $10 to get what I wanted IMO. The three note wasn't supposed to be with those/ those weren't ordered until after I filled out the paperwork for the others. When I ordered those three I delayed mailing these in to send them all in and get them back together and save on shipping. But I'd already filled out and finalized the forms. Yeah. I could have redone the paperwork and done 6 and 9 or 15 on one, but I just made them their own. Based on current turnaround times starting from. The day they arrived these should be ready to come home around 6/22.
  13. Yeah. Just a difference on the redemption date by 1 year.
  14. Not to advertise, just trying to help, but $60 feels super reasonable for a 69 and they (Banknoteworld) are running a 10% off sale for memorial day.
  15. When I go for that option I normally go for PDF printing.
  16. Me too. I haven't listed it anywhere and I haven't always been the best about remembering to save links but I have a now quite long list of links to articles and resources that I've referenced and used while researching these sets and notes for my descriptions.
  17. Outstanding! Thank you again for a very quick response!
  18. My submission of checks arrived at PMG last week and I was expecting, based on their response late last week, that the notes probably wouldn't be in the system until the end of this week or early next week. I was shocked when I checked, mostly for a laugh, and saw that they were showing as "Received." This has me freaking out a bit. I'm realizing I might get an answer on these a lot faster than I'd thought. So, where I'd been chill about this and thinking I'd find out eventually and to not worry or think on it much, this paradoxically has me more keyed up.
  19. So far I've manage to dig up a couple of contemporary articles with these things being used as a kind of commodity-backed pseudo-currency around 2008, which will be great for my narrative and the justification for their inclusion once I can get them graded. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/aug/08/zimbabwe?fbclid=IwAR3zdQ2PTbi3hSegqzcHBWgA9-ErWOPGQSEAh7XmV2zwV63kvvkspWpb_ys https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Zimbabweans-opting-for-liters-over-dollars-to-3201028.php?fbclid=IwAR2AVVtohJlS4PyPMkA2SaWlJu0VC8cCFCxvzSLV1IEuFKJ6JghLXEjm8rw
  20. When you don't list a catalogue number the system charges a $5 attribution fee per note. Is there anything I can do or enter so the system doesn't charge this fee? or do I just need to accept the change for attribution? Because I'm pretty sure these things don't have catalogue numbers - they aren't really currency, even though they were used as a kind of pseudo currency in 2008.
  21. I plan to test it and, maybe, in the process, force it. I'm trying to get copies of both types for the 5 L and 20 L and send them in together, maybe with a 20L from AMBY too.
  22. Yeah. They've already said they would. Just have to send it in. It's still a P-23, but it's an "f" and not a "e." It doesn't really cause me problems fortunately.
  23. Yeah... I recently discovered that I have one with that problem that I'll need to fix.
  24. So today the mail carrier delivered my new Soberanos notes. A new crop of 67 EPQs that will help fill out most of the 2018 notes and start me into 2019 - I think I'll probably move to get the remaining 3 2018/2019 notes soon and then I'll just have the 2021 series. So here is where I'm going to sound like a crazy person.... the seller sent a P-107a. The listing title only said P-107 - it did not list a sub-type. HOWEVER, the picture for the listing showed a P-107b. So... As it happens, I didn't have one of these before, so this wasn't a problem for me. But, if I'd had a P-107a, and I'd been wanting a P-107b, I would have been Sooo annoyed. If this had happened when I was trying to get my complete variety set for the 2nd series of the 1st Zimbabwean dollar I would have been fit to be tied. So, note to self - don't trust the picture if the sub-type / variety isn't listed in the title of the auction / listing! Be honest, folks. Am I crazy? Am I losing it? Also: I'm keeping my promise to myself - I'm not going to into collecting varieties and sub-types in Venezuela like I did with Zimbabwe. I'm not doing it! I swear! Oh dear... I have a problem. Edit to add: Just for fun I had to pull these out and see them together. My wife was sitting in bed next to me and said, "That is ridiculous." She said it's cool... but it's ridiculous.
