I am gathering information for a term paper and would like to ask this site a question. If money was not a factor what US Paper Currency would you add to your collection as your show piece? Dont just go for the highest priced one, but ues the rarest item so that no matter what coin shop you go into in the US, they themselves would be wowed.

No uncut sheets doesnt count, just a single note, no missing seals or serial numbers just a regular note that someone just might find in a safety deposit box or something. Or maybe in some collectors private stash that wont be on the market until he dies.

Then in that case I'd want a $100,000 note. Only used for bank-to-bank transfers smile.gif

I believe this gold certificate with a portrait of Woodrow Wilson was only used for transfers within the Federal Reserve system. They were not available to other commercial banks.

If I had my choice of anything, it would be the Binion Display, intact, that was at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas...........100 - $10,000 notes.

Fractional currency from the Civil War era is amongst the rarest of the paper money. Many of the notes have fewer than 20 graded and there are a few that are almost unique. The fractional specimens are also very rare and some of these notes were actually hand signed by the Treasurer and Treasury Secretary.
