How to become a professional currency grader?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I was wandering is there a certain kind of certificate or license someone need to hold in order to become professional currency grader?

Are there any courses or seminars that could be attended where detailed grading standards are presented? Preferably in Europe?

Best regards,

Boris

Good morning.  Thank you for your message.  Unfortunately, there aren't really any classes or programs offered for paper money grading, to my knowledge.  We do sometimes offer different classes or seminars at certain shows we attend but this is within the United States and not done frequently.  Grading is a field that is based mostly on experience rather than classes or schooling.  Most of our graders come from backgrounds in numismatics and have been collectors themselves for years.  When new graders start with us they will go through an extensive training period with our more experienced graders.  So while it is not always necessary to have experience grading notes to become a grader, generally you would need to have experience in numismatics and a basic familiarity with paper money.
