mintcollector
Hello, Over in the coin collecting forums, they have a 'what every new coin collector should know' set of threads. These posts allow experienced collectors to be able to post insightful information that helps out new and beginning collectors (like myself). Is there any way we can start something like that on these boards? Maybe I am in over my head on this one, or maybe it is a 'bad' idea, I don't know for sure; but it certainly would help someone like me. I would greatly appreciate if some of the more knowledgeable collectors out there would consider this, as I look up to your advice in this complex and confusing hobby of ours. I thank you for your time in reading this post! Sincerely, mintcollector
GW
great idea. i would like to see what other collectors/dealers have to say: to start, here are some "Lessons Learned" in my short time collecting: Lessons Learned (from a beginner collector) Learn about the Friedberg number Buy the “Paper Money of the United States by Arthur L. and Ira S. Friedberg” http://www.amazon.com/Paper-Money-United-States-Illustrated/dp/0871845180 Determine which notes most interest you: http://www.pmgnotes.com/grading/notes-we-grade.asp Learn about the Sheldon numerical grading scale: Trust that PMG or other TPG are accurately grading notes to protect you – the collector. http://www.pmgnotes.com/grading/grading-scale.asp Learn about estimated costs of currency: Coin World is one source http://www.coinworld.com/auth/DigitalEditionAuth.aspx?mc_pub=PMON&mc_edition=20101004&mc_page=1&f=1 Figure out what your budget ($$) will be, what your limit is on buying a note, based on the estimated prices. Research prices before buying from a dealer. Join a coin/currency club, join the PMG Collectors Society
