Specimens and Intaglios

I've run across some notes that seem to be printed from official plates but are not released, i.e. there are no serial numbers. World notes seem to be called "specimens" while the US notes I've run across are "intaglios" printed by the BEP and ABNC. What are these and are they worth anything?

I also think that the specimens you are talking about are basically the same. Uncut notes that are not circulated.
