What is a REMAINDER?

Can anyone explain what I have seen as a REMAINDER note?

Simply stated a 'remainder' note or notes are those "left over" when an issuing entity went out of business; changed designs; or whatever. Most of the time these notes are unsigned and definitely unissued.

Indeed they do exist. I have a few in my collection. In fact, there are some up for auction at Lyn Knight and also Heritage. Nice conversation pieces, especially after you've researched history of the issuer (or non-issuer as the case may be)
