$1 Bill Collection

1 post in this topic

This is my first official currency collection...

I took a little break from collecting coins and when the collecting itch came back, I decided I wanted to start a currency collection. When I collect, I am not looking for graded coins or currency. I am very interested in history, so it bring me joy to actually hold and feel currency from our past. Seeing it in plastic does not get me excited.

Anyway, for my first collection, I was wanted to collect at least one bill from each of the series (1963-Present) from each of the Federal District Banks (A-L). When I started, I did not realize bills were printed in both D.C. and F.W.. Needless to say, I have not gotten so far to collect one from each (yet).

Lucky for me, I am the treasurer for our local fundraising group for our office. Since most of our donations or collections from fundraisers are in the form of cash, I am able to look at every coin and bill before I deposit anything into the bank. Even though my wife thinks some of my collections are crazy, she too has started checking her cash and I have even had a couple fellow collectors come to rescue and help out.

To date (03/14/2012) I have been able to collect just over 65 notes; but I have plenty more spaces to fill.

Below is an Excel spreadsheet that will update automatically when I get new bills in to fill my collection. All of the bills are being logged and placed in BCW Pro 4-Pocket Currency Storage Pages. Since there are 12 Federal District Banks, each series takes up only 3 actual pages. One day I hope to have a binder full of bills from each series and each Federal District [crossing my fingers].
