Just starting to collect Currency..

5 posts in this topic

Hi,

I've just recently decided to collect the occasional piece of currency based on if the design catches my eye or not. I know this might seem like a whimsical way to collect but I have a higher focus on collecting coins that fill in my collection (and have some silver or gold in them in case the economy takes a dump). I have a few $1 silver certificates, a few $2 bills and a couple star notes. What I'm wondering is how many different color seals are on US currency and also which bills are considered to have fantastic designs? Thanks for your help.

Small size seals:

Green of course

Brown - Hawaii emergency notes - Nationals

Yellow (with blue serial numbers) - North Africa emergency notes

Blue - silver certs

Red - legal tender notes

Then you get into light green, dark green, dark blue/purple, ect.... but those are the base colors of the seals. I did not add anything as far as the modern colorized notes or anything for the large size notes as I do not collect them.

It would make a cool collection to make a denomination of each type of note, ie...gold cert, silver cert, hawaii, north africa, frn, legal tender, ec.... it would be colorful and interesting. I've thought about doing this myself in addition to my emergency note collection.
