Fractional Currency Shield, With Pink Background. Far and away the worst Pink Shield this cataloger has ever seen, and it is likely the worst that exists. Were it not for the fact that we are playing favorites due to the consignor being a close friend, we would say bad things about this shield. Most of the notes are damaged, but some of the damage is difficult to see because of the stains. The shield has been cut out into the design all the way around, and the notes are aged, torn, stained, and generally repulsive. Nonetheless, this is a very rare Pink Shield. Only about 20 of these exist, and for condition, this piece is clearly in the top 25. The gold-leafed elaborate frame, although not perfect, is definitely the high point of this offering. Nice Pink Shields are worth about $20,000 on the current market. Assigning a value to this presently offered piece is a challenge that we will avoid. Offered without estimate.
