Fake or counterfeit T66 $50 Confederate note?

4 posts in this topic

I recently found a T66 1864 $50 confederate note which certainly appears to be real on the front. It is serial # 9391 and is a YA version. The back looks real as well except for the text which is typed vertically over the blue FIFTY. It says:

LINES

Written on the back of a Confederate Note, by Major S. A. Jonas of Aberdeen, Mississippi

Representing nothing on God's earth now,

And naught in the water below it---

As the pledge of a nation that's dead and gone,

Keep it dear friend and show it.

There are seven more verses so I won't type out the rest. I haven't been able to find any references to this or any other writings on the back of any of these bills and I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a fake, counterfeit, or what. Any info would be much appreciated.
