lettow
The Japanese note is Allied MIitary Currency for Japan. They were first issued in 1945 and continued tobe used in parts of Japan until 1957. Neither piece is going to get you more than a buck or two. The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money is the general reference for world notes. It comes in three volumes: Volume I is for regional notes, Volume II covers government issues until 1960 and Volume III covers government issues from 1960 onward. There are country specific references but they will be costly for a casual collector. The German notgeld will not be in the Standard Catalog. You have to get a specialized German catalog for these type notes. There are many catalogs for US currency including the Friedburg Catalog, Krause-Lemke, Hessler-Chambliss and others.
