Another mystery bill

3 posts in this topic

Hello.

Can anyone help me identify this note? My first guess would be Hungary, but I can't seem to find a 5 forint bill that matches this description. Croatia also used the "Forint" denomination but there is no listing there. Then I thought, Austrio-Hungary but there is no listing with a forint denomination in Standard Catalog of World Paper Money..Above the serial number it says, Buda-Pest, September 1, 1848, which brings me back to Hungary...but who knows.

Thanks!

RI AL.

It is from Hungary. It was issued by the Hungarian Commercial Bank during the Revolution of 1848. It is in the Specialized Pick Catalog (Volume I) as PS-116. It is a 5 forint note. It was issued by Kossuth who also issued the Hungarian Fund notes in the United States. It catalogs at 2.00/VG 6.00/Fine 30.00/EF
