test notes from what!

i aquired these today! the top 2 are test notes but i dont know why testing. was it the paper test or securety test or what? sorry for big pics! the blanket note was just a bonus.

The "tests" were paper tests (varied linen content as I recall). The "R" note is the control note on Regular paper. The "S" note was the test note on Special paper. There were several other paper tests conducted using small size $1 silver certs too, but they weren't so obviously marked and are most easily noted by series/block.

Your right on with the answer. Just to add, supposedly the results of the R-S were not conclusive.

 

The other experimental notes were from the $1.00 SC 1928A Series... X-B, Y-B, Z-B blocks.
