Guess the grade!

Ok, so I sent this note: 1907 $5 Legal Tender to PMG to be graded, and I looked up the cert number today and there was a grade posted. Guess what it graded and I'll reveal the assigned grade later for discussion.

It's hard to tell from the small photo, but I'd say EF/AU.

Well, I sent it in thinking it was AU, perhaps worthy of a 55, but when I saw the grade posted, this is what it said:

Seal Type: Small red scalloped

Grade: VF 35

A 35? And there were no comments for any defects etc., just the grade. Any thoughts as to how I could have been so far off target?

xf/au possibly washed and pressed but i cant tell much from the photos

if washed and pressed with many pressed out and hidden folds then 40 or there abouts

 

i do not know a wild guess in hand sight seen then i can tell you

Hard to tell by the scans, but it looks like there are several folds on the reserve that might have been pressed out???

PMG is really grading tough Jeff. I sent in two notes that I thought were about XF-40 and they came back F-15.

Yeah, I guess I'll chalk it up to the ever popular tightening standards!
