Did you know that the money was badly colonial in the wallet?
Coins and notes were not used as an article of trade negotiations in Brazil in Colony.

The money was not always the way so that we know. At the time of Brazil was the colony of Portugal - which began in the century was 16 and until the beginning of the century 19 -, agricultural products and metals worth as money. Over time, the money was changing, and standardized by, say, lie in the wallet.
See that only curious: for many historians the first coin to travel in Brazil was sweet, because as the main item of export from Brazil Colonial was the sugar, it has become the main currency of exchange in the negotiations. Joao VI, the king, authorized the preparation of real money - made of gold, silver and copper, format and move in different sizes. The coins were the most valuable of gold and silver, and copper, of lesser value, were used in the purchase of offal.
Later, the paper currency was also issued, which resulted in the founding of the Bank of Brazil, which exists even today and is the first bank in the country. The role of money was, actually, a kind of ticket which could write the amount and sign, as in the current check sheet. It was once the money started to fit in the wallet ...
