  1. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  Our Population Report will only show notes that we have graded.  If you do not see your note listed then more than likely we have not graded any, or, if we did, they were graded before we started adding Obsolete notes to our Population Report.

The main reference book we use for Obsolete Currency is Standard Catalog of United States Obsolete Bank Notes 1782-1866 by James Haxby.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.  Thank you!

  2. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  Our graders do not see the customer information when they are grading notes.  They do not know whose items they are grading as the submission forms are not included with the notes in the grading room.  We do this to make sure the grading is as fair and impartial as possible.  If you feel that a note is over graded, you can submit that to us for an Appearance Review and our graders can review that.  If we do feel it was over graded, we would reach out to you with a resolution.  You can find out more about that on our website here: PMG Guarantee | PMG (pmgnotes.com) Unfortunately, we cannot make any determinations based on a picture.  Our graders would have to examine the note in person.

If you have any questions, please let us know.  Thank you!

  3. Hello, thank you for your message.  It is not a requirement that you have private insurance, although we do recommend it if you are not in the United States.  Unless you ship through one of our international offices, the package will not be insured when we ship it back to you outside of the U.S. ShipandInsure, Brinks and Malca-Amit are examples of private insurance companies you can use to purchase additional insurance for your package, if you wish.  It is not required but recommended.  You can find links to those insurance companies websites on our FAQ page under this topic:

  4. Hello,

Thank you for your message.  We do encourage international customers to visit their local customs office before shipping to explain your intentions with the submission (that they are your notes being sent in for evaluation and then being returned back to you) and they can advise you of any fees, restrictions, etc.

Please note that different carriers may have restrictions on certain items. Collectors and dealers are encouraged to consult with these carriers to confirm that their items are eligible.

We encourage international submitters to secure private insurance coverage, such as that provided by Hugh Wood, ShipandInsure.com, Brink’s or Malca-Amit.

If you have private insurance, please contact PMG Customer Service at service@PMGnotes.com or 1-877-PMG-5570 (1-877-764-5570) before submitting so that we can place this information on file. We must have this information on file prior to receiving your submission.

    Thank you!

    Dear Jennifer,

I can not find the shipping address for grading on your website.

Can you please point this out to me?

    Thanks

Hello, in order to select a grading tier, you will first have to determine a declared insurance value for your note.  Each tier has a maximum value amount to qualify for that tier.  If your note exceeds the maximum value amount then you will have to go up to the next tier.  The higher the value you list, generally, the higher the grading tier will be.  PMG Services & Fees | PMG (pmgnotes.com)

    Thank you!

  7. Hello, thank you for your message.  If you have a note you believe was mislabeled, please email or call us with the certification number from the back of the label along with what you believe the error to be and we can check on that for you.  If it is an error, we can send you instructions and a pre-paid label to send the note back for correction.  You can reach us at 877-764-5570 or by email at service@pmgnotes.com.

    Thank you!

  8. Hello, thank you for your message.  CCG is a closed and gated facility.  For security reasons, our offices are not accessible to the public and not available for walk in submissions.  Only authorized dealers with one of our companies (PMG, NGC, CGC or CSG) are permitted to set up appointments with us to drop off and pick-up submissions.

If you do not wish to mail your submissions to us, you can check the locate dealer feature on our website to see if there is a dealer in your area that might be able to submit the items in person for you. https://www.pmgnotes.com/services/DealerListing.aspx

    Thank you!

  9. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  Yes, we do still offer three different levels of membership, including the Elite level.  You can find more information about each level of membership and what you would get with each here: https://www.pmgnotes.com/join/

If you have any questions, please let us know.  Thank you!

  10. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  Unfortunately, I can't provide much more information beyond what was already advised.  Yes, it is considered a specimen but we do not provide values and cannot advise you on how much a note with that designation would be worth.  PMG is a grading company only and we do not buy, sell or value notes.

As I mentioned before, it is not used frequently and most often seen with notes from World War II.  For more information about this type of note, you might check the book I referenced, WWII Remembered by Schwann-Boling.

    Thank you!

  11. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  I checked with our research department and they advised that it is not a term that we use frequently but when it is used it is usually in the context of notes issued during WWII.  From the information we have, they needed the ability to produce specimens quickly in the field so they just used notes that were intended for circulation (often with issue styled serial numbers) and then just added some sort of specimen marking to make it into a specimen. The term is used the book, WWII Remembers by Schwann-Boling and is the phrasing we would use in those cases.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.  Thank you!

  12. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  Unfortunately, we don't keep statistics like that.  If there is a particular note that has a large number of counterfeits out there then we may decide not to grade that note at all.  Counterfeits can be found from virtually any country.  You may want to check our website as we have numerous articles regarding counterfeits.  If you enter the word counterfeit in the search bar it will bring up lots of articles that might provide some helpful information. Thank you!

Thank you for clarifying that.  One more question.  Since Krause Publications, there have been so many groups assigning "catalog numbers," some are pretty bad and change them often like greysheet's.  You said you would charge a research fee if a catalog does exist, so which catalog does PMG primarily use for new notes and is PMG going to start an online catalog like banknote.ws so that submitters can match the numbers?

    Thank you,

    Good morning,

You can find a list of the reference books we use here: Notes PMG Grades, Attributions & Reference Books | PMG (pmgnotes.com)

    Thank you!

  14. Good morning,

Thank you for your message.  Yes, PMG does authenticate the note and we do double check all catalog numbers.  The reason we started requiring customers to provide the catalog numbers was because we were seeing customers sending in hundreds of notes at once with no catalog information listed so it was taking our research department twice as long to verify those invoices because they had to look up every single note.  The process goes much faster if the customer provides a starting point and this, in turn, will result in faster overall turnaround times for all customers.

There is no penalty if you put an incorrect number, we just want a starting point, if possible.  We will, of course, double check everything and make sure the information is correct before we list it on the label.  We don't just blindly put whatever the customer lists on the label without verifying that it is correct.

If you are unsure of a number, you can put what you think it is and we will double check it.  If a note doesn't have a catalog number or is not listed in any catalog, you can just put "N/A" in that field.  We only charge a $5 research fee when there is a catalog number and it is not listed on the form.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.  Thank you!
